Background
Vancouver Whitecaps FC have an almost 40-year place in BC’s professional sports history. They played their first game in 1974, falling in a 2-1 home defeat to San Jose Earthquakes. Though their first game was a loss, the fresh team became the first professional sports team in Vancouver to win a major North American Championship in 1979. As many as 100,000 people lined Vancouver’s Robson Street to salute their heroes during a championship parade, arguably creating the most historic moment in Whitecaps history.
They continued through victories and upsets, pushing through various league changes and a team-name change (as the 86ers) to go on to become the 17th member of Major League Soccer in 2011. Later that year, it was announced that the team would make the newly renovated BC Place Stadium their home. As an official partner, SW will provide audio visual and technology support to game day activities and Vancouver Whitecaps FC events held throughout British Columbia.
